The very noisy night It was the middle of the night, and Big Mouse was fast asleep in his big bed. Little Mouse was wide awake in his little bed. 已经半夜了。大老鼠在自己的大床上睡着了。小老鼠在自己的小床上完全睡不着。 “Big Mouse! Big Mouse!” called Little Mouse. “I can hear something rushing around the house, huffing and puffing.’ “大老鼠！大老鼠！”小老鼠喊道，“我能听到屋子里又声音，呼~呼的” Big Mouse opened one eye and lifted one ear. “It’s only the wind.” he said.大老鼠睁开一只眼睛，抬起一只耳朵，“只是风啊”他说。 “Can I come into your bed?” asked Little Mouse. “我可以到你床上睡嘛？”小老鼠问。 “No,” said Big Mouse. “There isn’t room.” And he turned over and went back to sleep. “不行，这里没地儿了。”他翻了个身，又睡着了。 Little Mouse lay listening to the wind. Then suddenly, between a huff and a puff, came a TAP TAP TAP 小老鼠听着风声。忽然，在呼~呼~声里，他听到哒哒哒。 Little Mouse climbed out of bed, opened the front door-just a crack-and peeped out. 小老鼠从床上爬起来，把门打开一条缝，往外看。 Whoosh! Went the wind, but there was no one outside. 呼~！一阵风吹来，但是一个人也没有。 “Big Mouse! Big Mouse!” called Little Mouse. “I can hear someone tapping.I think there’s a burglar on the roof.” “大老鼠！大老鼠！”小老鼠喊道。“我听到有人在敲。我想屋顶上有小偷吧！” Big Mouse got out of bed and opened the bedroom curtains. “Look, it’s only a branch tapping on the window. Go back to sleep.” 大老鼠爬起来，打开卧室窗帘。“看，只是树枝怕打窗户的声音。回去睡觉吧。” “Can I come into your bed?” asked Little Mouse. “我能到你床上睡嘛？”小老鼠问。 “No, you wriggle.” said Big Mouse. “不行，你扭来扭去的。” Little Mouse lay in his own bed and listened to the wind huffing and puffing and the branch tap-tapping and someone calling “hoo-hoo! Hoo-hoo!” 小老鼠躺在自己的床上，听着风呼呼地，树枝哒哒拍着窗户，忽然，他听到“呜呼~呜呼~”
Little Mouse climbed out of bed. This time he looked under it. Then he looked in the wardrobe, and feeling very frightened, he yelled, “Big Mouse! Big Mouse! I think there’s a ghost in the room, and it’s looking for someone. It keeps calling, “Who-who, who-who!” 小老鼠赶紧起床。先看看床下面，然后检查了衣橱。他很害怕，喊道：“大老鼠，大老鼠！我想屋子有鬼！它在喊 呜呼~呜呼~” Big Mouse signed, sat up, and listened. “It’s only an owl,” he said. “It stays up all night, like you.” 大老鼠叹了口气，做起来，仔细听这：“这只是猫头鹰，它整晚上都不睡觉，和你一样！” “Can I come into your bed?” asked Little Mouse. “让我到你的床上睡呗？” “No, your paws are always cold.” said Big Mouse. “不行，你的小爪子太凉了。” Big Mouse pulled the blanket over his head and went back to sleep, and Little Mouse got back into his own bed. 大老鼠把毯子蒙住头，又睡着了，小老鼠也回到自己的床上。 Little Mouse sat up and and listened to the wind huffing and puffing and the branch tap-tapping and the owl hooting. But shhh! What was that? 小老鼠坐起来，听着风呼呼声，树枝哒哒哒拍打声，和猫头鹰的叫声。忽然，嘘！那是什么？ “Big Mouse! Big Mouse!” called Little Mouse.”I think it’s raining inside.” And Little Mouse jumped out of bed and fetched his red umbrella. “大老鼠！大老鼠！我觉得屋子里下雨了”小老鼠喊着，跳下床，拿起了雨伞。 Big Mouse got out of bed too. He opened the front door to see if it was raining at all. Then Big Mouse went into the kitchen and turned off the dripping faucet. He gently pried the umbrella out of Little Mouse’s paws and put it away. 大老鼠也起来了。他打开门看看有没有下雨。然后他走到厨房，把滴水的水龙头拧紧了。他轻轻地从小老鼠手里拿开雨伞。 “Can I come into your bed?” asked Little Mouse. “让我到你的床上睡吧！” “No, you’re nice and snug in your own bed.” said Big Mouse, taking him back to the bedroom. “不行，你自己的床也很舒服啊”大老鼠说着，带小老鼠回到卧室。 Little Mouse lay listening to the wind huffing and puffing and the branch tap-tapping and the owl hooting. And just as he was beginning to feel very sleepy indeed, he heard… 小老鼠躺着，听着风呼呼声，树枝哒哒声，猫头鹰叫声。。。他开始困了。。。就在这时，他听见。。。 Wheee, wheee, wheeee！ “Big Mouse! Big Mouse!” called Little Mouse. “You’re snoring.” “大老鼠！大老鼠！你打呼噜啦！“ Wearily, Big Mouse got up. He put his earmuffs on Little Mouse’s ears. He put a paper clip on his own nose and went back to bed. 大老鼠累及了。他把耳罩给小老鼠戴上。自己鼻子上夹了个夹子，又回床上去了。 Little Mouse lay and listened to — nothing! It was very, very, very quiet. He couldn’t hear the wind huffing or the branch tapping or the owl hooting or Big Mouse snoring. It was so quiet that Little Mouse felt he was all alone in the world. 小老鼠躺着，什么声音都没有了！特别特别安静。他听不见风声，树枝声，猫头鹰叫声和大老鼠的呼噜声。太安静了！小老鼠觉得自己在这世界上形只影单。 He took off the earmuffs. He got out of bed and pulled the paper clip off Big Mouse’s nose. “Big Mouse! Big Mouse!” he cried. “I’m lonely!” 他摘下耳罩，下了床，从大老鼠鼻子上拔掉夹子。“大老鼠！大老鼠！我好孤单！” Big Mouse flung back his blanket. “Better come into my bed, “ he said. So Little Mouse hopped in, and his paws were cold…and he needed just a little wriggled before he fell asleep. 大老鼠把毯子掀起来，“来我床上吧”。小老鼠跳上床，他得爪子是凉的，而且睡着以前也的确是扭来扭去的。 Big Mouse lay and listened to the wind huffing and puffing and the branch tap-tapping and the owl hooting and Little Mouse snuffling, and very soon he heard the birds waking up. But neither of them heard the alarm clock… 大老鼠躺着，听着风声，树枝声，猫头鹰叫声，和小老鼠的呼噜声。。。很快，他听到了小鸟起床的叫声。 但是，他们俩谁都没有听见闹钟。。。 BECAUSE THEY WERE BOTH FAST ASLEEP! 因为他们都睡着啦！
作者简介
戴安娜·亨德利(Diana Hendry)，诗人、儿童作家、短篇故事作家。作为自由记者工作几年后，进入大学就读文学专业。现在，一边教学一边创作。最喜欢写诗，也喜欢为不同年龄的读者写作–从绘本到少年小说。少年时曾接受记诵诗歌的训练，尤其重视文字的音乐性，作品适合朗读。1985年，作品《费安娜找到她的舌头》获斯马蹄奖提名;1991年，《阁楼的天使》荣获惠特布雷儿童文学奖。代表作品有绘本《小老鼠的漫长一夜》《圣诞节的客人》、长篇儿童文学《小魔术师》、成人诗集《制造蓝色》、儿童诗集《奇怪的事情在进行》。 分享结束啦
